Sun Life combines insurance businesses with MFS and other asset-management operations. Insurance revenue, assets under management, group earnings and insurer capital consequently use different scopes and denominators even when they appear on the same investor page.
What to read first
The annual report supplies the audited consolidated record, and the financial-results page places the latest period beside issuer-defined performance measures. The corporate profile maps the business mix; ratings and exchange records identify the named rated entities and the listed parent.
Reporting perimeter and reporting period
Sun Life Financial Inc. reports in Canadian dollars on a calendar-year basis. Assets under management are not insurance premiums or group assets, while the LICAT ratio shown for SLF Inc. has its own regulatory denominator and date.

Group, legal-entity and subsidiary boundaries
Sun Life Financial Inc. is the listed parent of the consolidated group, while Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada is a separately regulated operating insurer. MFS and the group's other asset-management businesses contribute fee and assets-under-management measures that do not share the insurance perimeter. The LICAT ratio must be read for the entity named in the disclosure, because the parent, the principal insurer and other operating businesses do not automatically have the same capital denominator.
Interpretation notes and limitations
Underlying measures remain non-IFRS where the company labels them that way. A rating for Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada does not automatically describe the holding company or another subsidiary. Comparable analysis separates insurance, wealth and asset-management contributions before considering totals.
